Central Queensland Mine Project

This project is located within a mine in Central Queensland. Project approval applications are being developed for the State and Commonwealth approval processes to secure future mining approval.

Our Services

E2M were engaged to provide support for an Environmental Authority (EA) amendment to support the extension of the coal mining operation following a referral under the EPBC. From there, we conducted a terrestrial ecology assessment to identify and characterise ecological values including threatened flora, fauna and ecological communities within the study area.

We undertook targeted surveys across two survey periods and produced an ecological assessment report and impact assessment for Matters of National Environmental Significance (MNES) and Matters of State Environmental Significance (MSES). The surveys identified identified suitable habitat for threatened fauna species including the ornamental snake, squatter pigeon,  Australian painted snipe, short beaked echidna and common death adder. Two threatened flora species, Dichanthium queenslandicum and Solanum adenophorum, were also identified.

Following the impact assessment, the team undertook an evaluation of biodiversity offset properties, building offset documentation to support the offset area management plans.

All of the services were undertaken during the COVID-19 pandemic, requiring flexibility, agility and adherence to evolving work health and safety procedures and requirements. All works were completed during the scheduled timeframe:

  • Baseline Ecological Assessment
  • Ecological Impact Assessments / Significant Impact Assessments
  • Threatened Species assessment and management planning
  • Protected Plants Survey and Impact Management Plans
  • Fauna surveys
  • Habitat Quality and Biocondition Assessment
  • Regional Ecosystem Verification
  • Threatened ecological community assessments
  • Ongoing ecological monitoring
  • Assessment of terrestrial groundwater dependent ecosystems
  • GIS
  • Map production
  • Data capture programs
  • Data management
  • Offsets Suitability Assessment
  • Offsets Strategy
  • Offset delivery options
  • Offset calculation
  • Offset Area Management Plans

We undertook targeted surveys across two survey periods and produced an ecological assessment report and impact assessment for Matters of National Environmental Significance (MNES) and Matters of State Environmental Significance (MSES).

Outcomes

The client received a comprehensive integrated ecological assessment from impact to offsets, enabling the submission of documentation to support the approvals process.
